Milburn Park Interactive Mural Project City of Cedar Park, Texas

About the City:

Located just 17 miles from downtown Austin, Cedar Park is vibrant community that is quickly growing. The City was named for a park that was a rail stop in the late 1800s and was incorporated as a City in 1973. True to our namesake, Cedar Park now features 47 City parks and 22 miles of trails. With a population of over 76,000 residents it has twice in recent years, been ranked as the Fourth Fastest-Growing City in the Country and it’s easy to see why so many people are eager to call Cedar Park home. The City of Cedar Park attracts residents and visitors from all over the globe because of its unique charm, close proximity to Austin and the Texas Hill Country, and the beauty surrounding the Lower Colorado River Lake System.

Project Overview

The City’s Parks Arts and Community Enrichment (PACE) Board seeks to commission an interactive mural to be installed on the concession/restroom building in Milburn Park. The design proposals should:

  • Be family-friendly, child-centric and fitting for a community park environment.
  • Be interactive providing a fun photo opportunity for members of the communit.
  • Compliment the building architecture and the overall aesthetic of the par.
  • Utilize durable materials that will be suitable for continuous outdoor display.
About the Mural Site

Milburn Park is located at 1901 Sun Chase Blvd. in Cedar Park, Texas. It is a significant community park and is home to a number of City events including the City’s 4th of July Celebration, the spring Egg-stravaganza, and the Heritage Festival. The Park is also home to soccer fields, a community pool, a community garden, basketball and volleyball courts, a playground and picnic pavilions.

The restroom and concessions building is primarily made of a rough Texas limestone that would not be conducive to a painted mural, however a roughly 9 foot by 9 foot section of the building is constructed of concrete masonry blocks, and that section has been identified as the interactive mural location.
