The Rapid City Arts Council invites local and regional writers to participate in the 4th Annual Dahl Mountain Poetry Competition, part of the 13th Annual Dahl Mountain Culture Festival (DMCF).

This poetry competition is open to all ages. Entries must be about mountain culture and poems should be 25 lines or less. Any style of poetry is acceptable.

What is Mountain Culture? Mountain culture is a lifestyle. It is the ideas, values and beliefs that are shared by people thriving in a robust environment – in or near mountainous terrain, i.e. the Black Hills of South Dakota. Some examples of acceptable subject matter are: mountain scenery, wildlife, people or sports.

Jurors will judge the competition through a blind jury process. Prizes will be awarded to the winning poem in each category. The top two winning poems will also be printed in the DMCF booklet.
