Prelude is a national initiative to provide time and space for Australian composers to make work by offering long-term residencies in historic houses around Australia.
Prelude is a national network of residencies for Australian composers, housed in historic buildings and providing time and space to create new work. It is a collaboration between the Peggy Glanville-Hicks Composers’ House, National Trust of Western Australia, National Trust of South Australia, National Trust of Australia (NSW), Australian Council of National Trusts, APRA AMCOS, Arts South Australia, Helpmann Academy and Bundanon Trust.
Prelude is assisted by the Australian government through the Australia Council for the Arts.
Prelude offers four long-term residencies in composers’ houses in NSW, SA & WA. The successful applicants are provided with sole occupancy of the houses as well as a stipend to cover living costs and travel.
Prelude is open to Australian composers in all musical genres and practices, including world music, jazz, new classical/art music, pop, film and rock. Residencies can be for research and development or for the creation of new work.
Prelude is a national program and each residency is open to composers from around the country.
Note that applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, and must be members of APRA AMCOS.
Applications for 2019 residencies are now open and will close at midnight on Monday 16 July 2018.
You will be notified of the result in September 2018.
