Concrete Canvas is a project from the City of Victoria’s Art in Public Places program, seeking to highlight the Rock Bay area through creative expression in the form of dynamic mural creation. This project will provide a platform for our vibrant art scene to contribute to the City’s cultural legacy for years to come. The City will collaborate with community members to build social capital, develop a sense of community pride of space, represent diversity, and empower people to make change in their city.
Concrete Canvas – Rock Bay Murals is a one-time project funded by the City’s Public Art Reserve Fund for the 2018 –2019 fiscal year. This project will see the creation of 10+ murals within the Rock Bay Community on private or public property in the summer of 2018. Adding murals will enhance the identity and character of Rock Bay and support cultural tourism and economic development strategies.
We are inviting an exciting array of international, national, and local professional artists for this project on walls ranging from 200 to 2000+ square feet.
How to Apply
This competition is open to emerging and mid-career artists, or artist teams currently residing in Victoria and the Capital Regional District (including the Gulf Islands).

DEADLINE: Artists must email their applications to culture@victoria.ca by Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 4 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Late applications will not be considered.
