The Coastal Healthcare Alliance Art Planning and Visioning Committee is currently accepting online applications from artists with connections to Maine and New England for a juried art exhibition at the new Health Center at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine for the duration of 8 months.
The 42,000-square-foot Health Center, which opened in December 2020, is a blank canvas waiting for warm and welcoming art. With over 350 patients coming through the doors each day and nearly 100 care team members working in the building, this inaugural exhibition will provide local, regional, and national artists alike with a diverse audience for their work as well as an opportunity to contribute to the healing and well-being of our patients.
Applicants can apply with any medium, including – but not limited to – photography projects, docu-style and experimental film, performance art, spoken word, musical compositions, fashion design, new media, and social media projects.
Specifically, artworks should reflect the diversity, beauty, and history of the Midcoast region, and offer enrichment
and enjoyment to patients, visitors and staff alike. Subject matter must be appropriate for public spaces and
respectful towards all cultural and ethnic backgrounds. In compliance with a healthcare environment, the following
elements will not be accepted:
- Overt sexual content or graphic nudity.
- Political imagery or religious iconography.
- Violent, sorrowful, or disturbing themes or subjects, including images of weapons.
The exhibition will primarily feature two-dimensional artwork including, but not limited to, paintings, prints,
drawings, watercolors, photography, etc. Three-dimensional artwork, such as sculptures, ceramics, textiles, mixed
media pieces, etc., will be accepted only if the works comply with the installation limitations of the exhibition space.
All artworks consisting of glitter, wet paint, sharp objects, open flames, balloons, spray (perfumes, hairsprays, etc.),
dangerous chemicals, weapons, pressurized containers, plants or animals (alive or dead), hazardous materials
(explosive, flammable, or perishable), decaying materials (visible mold or insect infestation), or anything deemed
harmful to a clinical setting will not be accepted.
Depending on height, length, depth, and weight, artwork may be displayed on open wall space in hallways,
conference rooms, waiting areas, and other well-lighted and visible locations throughout PBMC Health Center.
