The Tanana Valley Watershed Authority is inviting local artists to submit design ideas to create storm drain art in Fairbanks.
The purpose of the project, now in its fourth year, is to raise public awareness that all storm drains flow into the Chena River and to provide an opportunity for artists to create public works of art in downtown. The past art was displayed for one year before the construction on Cushman Street (2014), on Noble Street (2015), and Cowles Street (2016).
Submissions will be accepted through May 5, and storm drains this year are located on Gillam Way. Artists will paint the weekend of May 20, weather permitting, and the winning artists will receive $150 for each design painted. Artists are encouraged to think of the following themes: storm water pollution; fish, wildlife and habitat; and quality of life.
