The Coburn Gallery at Ashland University is announcing a call for a national juried exhibition titled “Ode to Degas.” According to Cynthia Petry, director of the Coburn Gallery, this exhibition “seeks a diverse collection of works that exemplifies the concepts and exploration of movement, much like Edgar Degas with his study of dancers.”
The exhibition, which is open to artists 18 years and older who currently reside in the United States, is open to all mediums and must be original work. Additionally, the works of art must be executed solely by the artist within the last two years.
A maximum of two entries are permitted with an entry fee of $20 per artist. All entries should be postmarked by April 9, 2018. Cash awards include Best in Show, two Honorable Mentions and a People’s Choice award, which will be selected by gallery patrons during the exhibition. See www.ashland.edu/coburngallery for the Ode to Degas prospectus.
The juror for the exhibition is Robert Robbins, an internationally exhibited visual artist who explores issues of social, political and environmental conflict through landscape as subject. His art, which takes the form of large scale paintings, on the surface appears straight-forward, but on closer inspection leaves the viewer to contemplate their position in the world.
